What’s new in Esteroids Beta?
Esteroids Beta is completely different than the Alpha version. It has:
- a new design, by Adam Bogusiak.
- a focus on search functionality,
- a new mechanism for browsing dWebsites,
- community spaces, a new concept that we think will revolutionize the dWeb.
This version is a result of the lessons we learned from running Esteroids Alpha.
Why Esteroids?
We are building Esteroids with two end goals in mind.
First, the biggest challenge of the decentralized web right now is accessibility. If you’re a builder, how do you get people's attention to your dWebsite? If you’re a user, how can you discover new dWebsites?
There is no place to advertise dWebsites, no places to discuss them, no community places at all. Esteroids Beta doesn’t solve all of the accessibility problems — yet — but it’s a step in this direction.
The second goal is that the decentralized web — the new web — should be as democratic as possible. We are not building a decentralised clone of the old web.
We believe the web is the basis of modern life, and as such, should belong to the people of the Internet. We want Esteroids to be the main platform of the decentralized web, and we want it to belong to the community, instead of some heartless, greedy corporate.
We are dipping our toes in democratizing the new web with community spaces.
Community spaces
If we really want Esteroids to belong to the community, we would need eventually to give up parts of it.
Community spaces are places on Esteroids website that will — in the long term— be controlled by the community. You can do such magic in dWebsites by using tokens and specifying in the blockchain level who controls each place of the website.
At the first stage, those spaces will be managed by us. They will have content promoting the community, like winners of the websites of the week contest. Esteroids currently has two types of community spaces.
There are two community spaces in Esteroids Beta. The main one is on the main page.
The other community spaces are on every search results page. they look like the info-box you get in Google searches.
Currently we will leave those spaces empty, but if you want to support Esteroids, you can “adopt a page”, and get to put in those boxes your own conetnt. Contact us on Twitter, Discord, or Email to do that!
