(We participate in Gitcoin Round 11. Please support the project to allow us to further develop esteroids.eth and the dWebsite of the week award.)

Update: There are more sponsors in week #4–week#11!

We are proud to announce the dWebsite of the week award! It is sponsored generously by ENS (Thank you ENS!)

The award goes like this:

  1. We tweet on a regular basis in our Twitter account new dWebsites (that were just created) or old dWebsites (that just had an update).
  2. Every Thursday we create a Twitter poll with 4 nominees for the award from the dWebsites that were created or updated in the previous 7 days.
  3. The Internet (that’s you!) got 24 hours to vote for the winnter.
  4. The winner is announced on Friday. They get 100$ from ENS (to be paid in ETH), while also get featured on esteroids.eth for at least 7 days.

Simple, ain’t it?

Every Wednesday we will also tweet a list of all the new dWebsites from the previous 7 days. In the future, we aim for all the nominees for the award to come from this list, but in the meanwhile, we want to give the dWeb pioneers, who created dWebsites before anyone dreamt of it, a chance to also win the award.

This process is both initial and temporary! With time and experience, we will design a better process. We see the several next weeks as an extended pilot. For comments, advice and ideas write us on Twitter, Discord, or Email.

FYI: We hereby declare esteroids.eth as the winner of week #0 of the competition!(without a money prize)

That’s is our way to both give ourselves kind of a founders award while avoiding conflict of interest in the future, since we are illegible to compete for the award again.

Q&A time

Q: Why do you select nominees also from dWebsites that were updated in the last 7 days? Why not only from the new ones?
A: There are dWeb pioneers building dWebsites since a few years already so we think they deserve a chance to compete as well.

Q: Why a Twitter poll?
A: It’s the most inclusive voting tool we know right now. Discord? Too exclusive. Snapshot? Too complicated. Voting with ENS names? There are no such tools yet, though we’re working on one!

Q: Why only 4 nominees?
A: Twitter allows maximum 4 options in a poll.

Q: A 100$ prize? That’s cool!
Q: A 100$ prize? That’s lame!
A: Well, a 100$ may not be enough for you to quit your day job, but it does give enough motivation to competitive people. We hope with time to find ways to sponsor bigger awards.

Q: I won! How do I get the prize?
A: if you set the ETH address of the dWebsite ENS name, the money will be sent there. If not, we’ll try to contact you via the details you provide in your ENS record or on your dWebsite. If we don’t succeed, please try to contact us. If neither of these happens, you may end up not getting the prize :-(

Q: Why do you organize this competition?
A: look, this is a fun community competition, but also much more than just a “fun” competition.

It’s also a declaration.

It’s a statement that the “New Web” (dWeb, Web3, or whatever you call it) is growing. It’s a showcase of the best it has to offer. It’s staring the old web in the eyes, telling it to bring it on because we are better. We are the most exciting thing happening on the Internet.

Too dramatic? Probably. But we are super excited, can’t you see?
